Lester Barrie is co-host of Spread the Word with Andre Russell on 102.3 Radio Free KJLH in Inglewood California, a suburb of Los Angeles. The station owned by Stevie Wonder plays 24 hours of Gospel Music Sundays 12am to midnight, and between the hours of noon and 6pm, Lester Barrie provides comic relief and bible trivia as Andre Russell plays a mixture of traditional and contemporary Gospel music. From Shae Norman and Shekinah Glory, to the Williams Brothers and The Spiritual QCs, the Spread the Word team fills the afternoon with the “Sunday Best” in music and praise.
Barrie has also served as a host of Black Entertainment Television’s Comic View in a season when the network boasted of being viewed by 71million households. He was featured by Russell Simmons as a Def Jam All Star and was recently bestowed with the honor of being named an Apollo Legend. He has toured with T.D. Jakes, acted as a stand-in for Tyler Perry, and opened for Yolanda Adams, Smokie Norful, as well as Tramaine Hawkins.
Perhaps most recognized from the Preacher role in the Wayan’s Brothers movie, Don’t be a Menace to South Central While Drinking your Juice in the Hood, Barrie can be seen many weekends performing “clean” comedy in the “not so clean” atmosphere at The Laugh Factory in Hollywood, California. He often hosts the Saturday 10pm show where he is affectionately tagged ‘Mr. Saturday Night’. All the while, Lester Barrie prepares to minister Sunday mornings at Perfecting Christian Fellowship in Culver City where, yes, he is the founding Pastor!
Lester is a 2004 graduate of The University of Southern California and is currently working on his Master’s of Divinity at Biola University.
A Native of Chicago Illinois Lester Barrie now resides in Compton California.
